Emergency Procedures
Not all school emergencies can be predicted. Natural disasters or crises can occur at any time. Schools must be prepared to respond efficiently and safely. Familiarizing school staff and students with emergency procedures and protocols will lead to a much better response to a critical incident, and a more rapid and effective recovery.
School staff and students should work together with first responders, mental health professionals, community leaders, and parents to promote school safety and minimize the effects of crises or emergency situations. The South Dakota School Safety Center provides resources and training to help schools prevent, prepare, respond to, and recover from incidents that impact the safety and security of students, educators, and staff, including:
